Valuations & Appraisals
A rug is often far more than just a rug. Hand-knotted rugs, both classical and modern are valuable pieces of art that ought to be properly looked after, and insured against damage or theft. That is why we believe it is so important that rugs be appraised, and accompanied by written documentation showing their value and provenance.
At The Rug Shop of Tunbridge Wells, we have over 60 years of experience in the rug trade, and with it an extensive knowledge of both Oriental and European rugs and carpets. Over the years we have appraised many rugs and provided replacement values to insurance companies on behalf of our customers.
The overall quality of a rug, the knot count, its condition, age, size, materials, dyes used, design and origin are all taken into account when finding the replacement value of a rug. It is important that we see a rug in person when valuing a rug as images or photos are unreliable at determining the factors listed above.
If you are interested in having your rug(s) valued and appraised for insurance purposes, or are simply looking for some information; please get in touch with us to arrange a time in which we can see your rug in person.
