This Afghan rug has a cotton foundation and a wool pile. It has a standard 110 knots per square inch.
Modern Kazak rugs continue a tradition of geometric design established in the Caucasus region, but today tend to be made primarily in Afghanistan. They make heavy use of intricate cross and diamond motifs, and tend to feature red, blue or green as a primary colour with golden yellow as a secondary colour. The pile is shaved to a low profile to help bring out the pattern. This, along with the quality of the wool gives our Kazak rugs a bright and lively finish that glows in the light.
Blue is used as the background colour of this piece with red, cream, green and orange being used to detail the bold geometric motifs. Cream and red are used to colour the border presenting a nice contrast to the interior field.
