This Persian rug has a wool foundation and a wool pile. It has a standard 110 knots per square inch.
While the majority of the Qashqai tribe have settled into towns and villages, many still live the nomadic lifestyle of their ancestors. In the summer they tend their flocks of sheep and goats in the rugged highlands north of Shiraz, before making the annual three-hundred mile trek to the winter pastures near the Persian Gulf. Their pure wool rugs are a product of this way of life. Designs are knotted from memory and adapted spontaneously to create spirited and unique compositions, bustling with abstract representations of the animals and plants that sustain the tribe. The deep reds and blues are offset by creamy highlights and animated by vignettes of green and orange.
Persian Qashqai rugs are one of the most well known tribal rugs you can buy. Woven by the Qashqai tribe people these authentic rugs bring warmth and depth to any setting. The wool foundation and the thick pile invite you to jump straight in and sit on them enjoying the soft luxury beneath. The designs of these pieces are often geometric but, unlike rugs made in the city which have a planned and drawn out design; Qashqai rugs are made solely from the imagination of the weaver, adding a rustic charm to the piece. As with many tribal pieces this Qashqai contains rich reds and cream colouring. To find a Qashqai with a large amount of navy can be quite unique.
