Green

Green, though it may appear more frequently in modern rugs, is quite uncommon in traditional rugs originating from the Middle East. There, the colour is considered sacred as it is taught that it was the colour often worn by the prophet Mohammed. The green found in traditional rugs was created by first dyeing the wool blue and then dyeing it again with yellow. Nowadays synthetic green dyes are used more often as it can be made more readily available.
